Managing Toxicities of Targeted Therapies

October 16, 2026 – October 16, 2027

This activity is jointly provided by Global Education Group (Global) and GO2 for Lung Cancer.

This activity is supported by an independent medical educational grant from Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

Target Audience

The primary audience for this project is multidisciplinary healthcare professionals (HCPs) involved in the diagnosis, treatment, and longitudinal care of patients with advanced mNSCLC, including those with HER2 (ERBB2)-mutations. This includes medical oncologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, oncology pharmacists, molecular pathologists, oncology nurses and navigators, and other team members integral to diagnosis, biomarker testing, treatment selection, and toxicity management, especially those practicing in community, under-resourced, and rural settings, where disparities in access to biomarker testing and targeted therapies remain most pronounced.

Statement of Need/Program Overview

This activity reviews the toxicity profiles associated with standard and HER2-targeted therapies, with particular emphasis on tyrosine kinase inhibitors and the gastrointestinal, cardiac, and hepatic adverse events commonly encountered in clinical practice. Through practical, evidence-based guidance, faculty discuss proactive patient education, monitoring, and supportive care strategies designed to prevent or mitigate toxicities, reduce unnecessary treatment interruptions, and optimize patient outcomes.

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  1. Recognize common toxicities associated with platinum-based, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies, with a focus on tyrosine kinase inhibitors.
  2. Discuss common side effect profiles of non-targeted and targeted therapies for HER2 (ERBB2)-mutant NSCLC, including gastrointestinal, cardiac, and hepatic-related adverse events.
  3. List strategies to prepare patients for such side effects to prevent, mitigate, monitor, and manage treatment-related toxicities to avoid discontinuation of treatment and optimize therapeutic outcomes.
